Andrew Goldner of GrowthX

With 20 years’ experience in the technology sector, Andrew manages GrowthX’s operations and communications, startup sourcing and the Investment Committee and works closely with GrowthX Corporate clients. Andrew is a Kauffman Fellow, Regional Board Member of Venture for America, and a proud Mentor at Alchemist Accelerator, WeWork, Galvanize and Matter.

In this episode, Andrew discusses his early career as a lawyer for several prominent Tech pioneers including AltaVista, Yahoo, and Salesforce. Andrew talks about GrowthX’s mission as a venture platform deploying capital talent and know-how. GrowthX focuses on seed-stage companies but is also broadly active in innovation from the idea stage and beyond. GrowthX’s core principle lies in identifying the best founders, and earning the right to invest by providing targeted assistance, typically in the areas of marketing and sales. Andrew highlights each pillar of GrowthX, including Growth X Academy (which helps founders at every stage understand the market development and opportunity, and execute and commercialize innovation), and GrowthX Corporate, which helps corporations source early-stage technology partners.

Andrew and Hall discuss three important venture capital trends:
1. The rise of investment opportunities outside of traditional centers like Silicon Valley, both in the emerging economies within the U.S. and around the world.
2. How VC investments from corporates are being increasingly welcomed at early stages, as corporations become more engaged in active innovation.
3. How VC funding and advisory assistance is coming much earlier in the process, in the seed and even pre-seed stages.
