Eric Rosenblum of Tsingyuan Ventures
In this episode, Hall interviews Eric Rosenblum of Tsingyuan Ventures, a technology-focused venture fund based in Los Altos, California.
Tsingyuan invests in seed to A-round startups in the United States, and is a successor fund to the TEEC Angel Fund. Eric talks about his start investing in China and how they formed their investment thesis. Specifically, they consider investments that are comparatively valuable in China, that can assemble a team that can function well in China, and that focus on cross-disciplinary technology.
Eric provides advice for would-be angel investors: do your research, be disciplined about building a portfolio, and have a goal in mind. As Eric’s advises, “…you really need to stay true to your thesis because even if you’re tempted by something that seems good at the outset, the chances are that there are many things you’re missing because you’re stepping outside your comfort zone”.
Finally, Eric goes more in-depth on the opportunities to be found in cross-border, cross-disciplinary technology space. He also talks at length about some of the risks and challenges. In particular, he discusses operational risks, patents and IP theft, and political risks particular to U.S./China investment.
